Preventing Sexual Harassment for Local Council Staff (Part 1:Core Training)
In response to the requirements being placed on employers (including local councils by new and emerging legislation, ALCA has teamed up with Work Nest to provide detailed, but accessible training that can be used to evidence commitment to engaging with the new requirements.
This session provides staff teams with a clear and practical understanding of sexual harassment, its impact, and the behaviours that contribute to unsafe or hostile working environments. Using real data, case law and everyday scenarios, the course explores what constitutes sexual harassment under the Equality Act, how it differs from bullying, and how wider EDI principles support respectful conduct.
The training outlines why incidents often go unreported, the obligations placed on organisations under current legislation (including the duty to take reasonable steps to prevent harassment), and the responsibilities employees hold in their own conduct. It also covers options for challenging or reporting concerns, the risks associated with third-party harassment, and the consequences for those who engage in inappropriate behaviour.
Course focus includes:
- Understanding sexual harassment, myths, and real-world examples
- Wider EDI context, protected characteristics and the link to bullying
- Impact on individuals, teams and organisational culture
- Third-party harassment and practical risk-mitigation measures
- Reporting options, organisational duties, and employee responsibilities
- Consequences, support routes and maintaining a safe work environment
Designed for any organisation wishing to strengthen a culture of dignity and respect, fulfil its preventative duties, and ensure staff feel safe, supported and confident in raising concerns.
